ペットの悩み第１位は「抜け毛」だそうです。
急に寒くなってきましたね。
特にこの時期は、猫の抜け毛が多い換毛期になります。
抜け毛が多い猫種やどうして起こるのか
ケアの方法などをお伝えします。
犬の抜け毛については前に書きました。

毛がたくさん抜けるんだけど病気？
ダブルコートの猫の場合は体温を調節するため、春と秋に大量にアンダーコートが抜けます。
この時期を「換毛期」と言います。
猫の換毛期は、年に2回訪れます。
一般的に気温が暖かくなる3月頃と、寒さが厳しくなる11月頃からはじまるとされています。
換毛期に大量の毛が抜け落ちるのはなぜ？
基本的に、猫の毛は年中抜けては生えてを繰り返しているものです。
換毛期になると、暑さや寒さに対応すべく、一気に全身の毛が生え替わることになります。
飼い主としてはびっくりするほどの抜け毛の量ですが、
換毛期は猫の生理現象ともいえるものなので、ほかに変わった様子がなければ心配いりません。
夏毛と冬毛の違い
猫の毛は、オーバーコート（上毛）とアンダーコート（下毛）の二層構造になっています。
3月頃から生え替わる夏毛は、少し固めです。
通気性をよくするために、1本1本の毛の密度は低くなっています。
11月頃から生えてくるアンダーコートは、ふわふわとした被毛です。
細く柔らかい毛が密集して生え、冬の寒さから身を守ります。
そして冬が終わり、暖かい季節がやってくると、役目を終えた冬毛はごっそりと抜けて、
また時期がくれば夏毛が生えるようになります。
室内飼いの猫は換毛期がないって本当？
完全室内飼いの場合は、年に2回あるはずの換毛期がやってこないパターンも多いのです。
外で暮らす猫と異なり、エアコンで温度調整された室内で過ごす家猫は、夏場と冬場の気温の変化に対応する必要がありません。
よって、室内飼いの猫には明確な換毛期がなく、季節に関係なく毛が抜けて、生え替わり続ける、といった具合になります。
猫のシングルコートとダブルコート
猫の被毛はシングルコートとダブルコートに大別できます。
量に違いはあれど、どんな猫でも抜け毛はあります。
ダブルコート
ダブルコートは柔らかく短いアンダーコートと、コシがあって長いオーバーコートの二重構造。
オーバーコートは水を弾いたり、紫外線から皮膚を守る役割があります。
アンダーコートの役割はおもに保温で、柔らかく短めの毛が密集しています。
ダブルコートの場合は体温を調節するため、春と秋に大量にアンダーコートが抜けます。
この時期を「換毛期」と言い、多くの飼い主が悩まされる時期です。
雑種は個体によって毛質が異なりますが、日本の雑種猫はダブルコートであることがほとんどと言われているようです。

猫の抜け毛の対策
- こまめにブラッシング

こまめなブラッシング
犬の抜け毛が特に多くなるのは春と秋。
夏毛から冬毛、また冬毛から夏毛に生え替わる時期は大量の毛が抜けて、
部屋中に綿ぼこりのように毛が舞うということも珍しくありません。
そこで、ピンブラシやスリッカーなどを使い、毛が抜け落ちる前にブラシをかけて古い被毛を取り除きましょう。
こまめに掃除
ブラッシングの後は、一緒にノミとかが落ちている場合もあります。
抜け毛がノミの餌になることもあるので掃除はこまめにしてくださいね。
もしかして病気かも
いつもより抜け毛が多かったり、痒がっている場合は病気の場合も
いつもと違っていたら病院で診察してくださいね。
