猫の熱中症対策の６つのポイント
毎日、暑いですね。
先日は、猫の熱中症について、応急処置などについて書きました。
今日は、ならないための対処方法を書きます。
厳しい暑さ人も猫も熱中症の対策をして乗り切りましょう。

猫の熱中症対策の６つのポイント
猫は人よりも体温調節が苦手です。
エアコンも自分でつけられないので、飼い主がしっかりと暑さ対策をしてあげましょう。
１. 猫の適温は27～28℃。維持するためにエアコンの使用も積極的に！
猫の適温は、人間が少し暑いと感じる27～28℃程度です。
節電を言われている今年の夏ですが、熱中症は命取りになる危険があります。
外気温が30度を超えそうな日は積極的にエアコンを活用しましょう。
冷えすぎも猫にとってはよくありませんし、
なかにはエアコンをあまり好まない猫もいます。
猫がいつでも行き来できるように、できればドアは開放しておきましょう。
湿気が多くジメジメする日は、ドライ（除湿）機能を活用するなど使い分けるのもいいかもしれません。
注意したいのは、リモコンを置く場所です。
テーブルの上などは、猫が踏んでスイッチを切ってしまう危険性があります。
猫が触れられない場所に置くようにしましょう。
２.扇風機は空気の循環に使う
同じ室温であっても風通しがよいか否かで、体感温度は大きく変わります。
扇風機やサーキュレーターは人が使うと涼しいと感じますが、毛に覆われている猫に対してはあまり効果がないと考えられます。
空気の循環を作る装置として、エアコンと併用をするようにしましょう。
必要以上に室温を下げなくてもよいため、結果として節電にもつながります。
ただし、ケージの中にいる猫の場合は、エアコンや扇風機の風が直接当たらないように注意してください。
ずっと風が当たりすぎてしまうと、体が冷えすぎて体調を崩してしまいます。
また、何かのはずみで扇風機の羽がむき出しになる、扇風機が転倒するなど、ケガをする危険もあります。
カバーをつける、転倒防止策を施すなど対策を講じましょう。
羽がないタイプやサーキュレーターを検討してもいいかもしれません。
風通しを良くすることが大切なので、換気扇をつけておくのもおすすめです。
３.水飲み場は複数用意する
熱中症予防は水分補給も効果的！
新鮮な水をいつでも飲めるように、必ず複数の水飲み場を用意しておきましょう。
神経質な猫は、知らない器やいつもと違う場所の水を飲みません。暑くなってきたら早めに水飲み場を増やしておくと安心です。
普段から水をあまり飲まない猫もいます。
その場合は、強制的に飲ますのも難しいので、ごはんの水分量を増やして少しでも水分補給をさせましょう。
お水を飲ませるポイントは、後日 紹介します。
４.避難場所を用意しておく
留守中に、停電やエアコンの故障が発生したときのことも考えなくてはいけません。
外気温が30度を超える日の場合は、あっという間に室内の温度が上がって熱中症の危険性が高まります。
電気を使わないひんやりグッズや、風通りのよい場所を用意しておきましょう。
5. ブラッシングをしておく
長毛種の猫は冬毛がいつまでも残ってしまい、それが原因で体温が上がりやすくなります。
ブラッシングは猫との大切なコミュニケーションの1つです。
愛猫との絆を深めるためにも積極的に行ってください。
長毛種の暑さ対策としてサマーカットにする人もいます。
確かに暑さは軽減できますが、皮膚へのダメージやストレスがかかるデメリットもあります。
ブラッシングだけでも熱は逃しやすくなるので、猫の負担をよく考え、慎重に決めてください。
６．ひんやりグッズを上手に活用
猫の熱中症対策としてグッズがいろいろと販売されています。
対策グッズには次のようなものがあります。猫の性格や年齢、好みにあわせていくつか組み合わせて用意するのがよさそうです。
- 大理石マット
- 冷却ジェルシート
- アルミシート
- ペットハウス、ベッド（冷感素材）
- 断熱・遮光シート
- サンシェード、すだれ
- 遮光カーテン
大理石マットや冷却ジェルシート、アルミシートは、猫が上に乗って涼むものです。
ジェルシートは猫が噛んでも、中身が出てこないペット用を選んでください。
食品用の保冷剤には、猫が口に入れると中毒を起こすエチレングリコールが使われている場合があるので使用しないようにしましょう。
破れにくい素材を使っていても日々、破れていないかチェックしてくださいね。
ペットハウスやベットには、冷感素材を使用したもののほかに、凍った保冷剤でハウス内の温度を下げるタイプもあります。
断熱・遮光シート、サンシェードやすだれ、遮光カーテンは、室温が上がらないよう直射日光を防ぐために使います。
猫は窓辺が好きな動物です。カーテンと窓の間が好きな猫もいるので、遮光カーテンがかえって逆効果になる場合もあります。
猫がいつもどこで過ごしているのか、よく観察してから導入を決めましょう。
