どうして犬の毛は抜けるのでしょう？
その答えは、二層の毛と換毛期にあります。
ダブルコートとは？
犬の毛は、オーバーコートと呼ばれる一次毛と、アンダーコートと呼ばれる二次毛の二層に分かれています。
オーバーコート（上毛）：皮膚の保護
アンダーコート（下毛）：保湿
犬の換毛期
春から7月頃にかけてと、秋から11月頃にかけての年に2回です。
春の換毛期：冬毛（ふゆげ）から密度の少ない夏毛（なつげ）へ
秋の換毛期：夏毛からふわふわとした保温性の高い冬毛へ
このサイクルを繰り返すことで、季節ごとの気温や湿度の変化に対応しています。
ダブルコートとシングルコート
二層の毛と換毛期を持つ犬種は、ダブルコートと呼ばれます。
一方で、アンダーコートを持たず、換毛期がないシングルコートと呼ばれます。

犬の抜け毛を放置すると
犬の抜け毛を放置することによって
「チリダニ」というフケを栄養源にしているダニの繁殖につながってしまいます。
アトピー性皮膚炎の症状がある犬さんは、悪化の可能性があるので注意が必要。
抜け毛の対策
- こまめにブラッシング
- こまめに掃除
- 定期的なシャンプー
- 洋服を着せる
こまめなブラッシング
犬の抜け毛が特に多くなるのは春と秋。
夏毛から冬毛、また冬毛から夏毛に生え替わる時期は大量の毛が抜けて、
部屋中に綿ぼこりのように毛が舞うということも珍しくありません。
そこで、ピンブラシやスリッカーなどを使い、毛が抜け落ちる前にブラシをかけて古い被毛を取り除きましょう。
犬種によってピンブラシがいいかスリッカーがいいかなどあるので、
お店の方や専門家に相談するのもいいですよ。
こまめに掃除
ブラッシングの後は、一緒にノミとかが落ちている場合もあります。
抜け毛が餌になることもあるので掃除はこまめにしてくださいね。
定期的なシャンプーも◎
汚れを落としながら抜け毛の処理もできるので、有効なケアのひとつです。
シャンプーをするタイミングは、犬の肌質や被毛などにより異なりますが、
いつもと違うニオイがしたり、べたつきが気になったりしたら。
先にブラッシングして抜け毛を落としてからされるのがおすすめです。
タイミングが判断できない場合は、トリマーや獣医師に相談を。
洋服を着せるのもひとつの手段
最近では抜け毛対策として外出先のケアとして、
室内でのみ洋服を着せるという飼い主さんも増えています。
通気性のよい素材や伸縮性のある素材のものなら、洋服が苦手な犬も着やすいのでおすすめです。
ただし長毛犬は着せたままにしておくと毛玉になることも。
病気の疑いも
犬には換毛期があるので、時期によって抜け毛の量が多い、少ないということで病気を疑う必要はありません。
- もともと被毛の量が多かったのに、突然薄くなった
- 毛質が変わった
- 部分的な脱毛
不自然な変化があった場合には、感染症などの可能性も。
