ホリスティックケアって何？
「ホリスティック」には、「全体・まるごと」という意味があります。
ホリスティック / Holisticには主に哲学と医学で２つの意味があります。
哲学では ホーリズム / Holism といい、古代ギリシャの「 holos / ホロ」が語源になっており、すべて・全体という意味を持っています。
その定義は、部分的に切り離して理解するのではなく、そのすべての部分を含む全体性（社会、体、マインド、言語など）から理解すること。
医学的な定義では、ボディー・マインド・スピリットの様な全体性を考慮した治療と定義しています。
ホリスティックケアの特徴
ホリスティックケアの一番の特徴は、
犬や猫の存在を、体・心・魂・周りの環境も含めて全体的にとらえます。
自然治癒力を引き出すケアになります。
心が元気でも体が不健康だったら、もちろん病気の状態ですし、
体は健康でも心が病んでいても健康とはいえないというところが私は気に入っています。
それにより、心と体のどちらも健康であることを目指します。
ホリスティック医療の歴史
そのホリスティック医療なのですが、なんと5000年以上（とある説では7000年以上とか。。。）も前から存在していたみたいです！
イタリアにあるオッタルというアルプスの登山客が1991年に、偶然5300年前に生きていたミイラを発見しました。
そのミイラの体全体に61箇所の刺青があり、驚くべきことに、古代の鍼治療の様な治療の際に鍼を刺す場所を示したものだったみたいです。
ホリスティックケアのひとつのアーユルベーダや中国伝統医療も3000年以上もの歴史があります。
そんな歴史の長いホリスティック医療ですが、そもそも「ホリスティック医療」という名前で一般的に西洋で認知され始めたのは、1960年代頃です。
近代医療があまりにも病気を診断・治療する薬や医療テクノロジーに、焦点を合わせすぎていることに疑問を持った人々が、ホリスティック医療という古くからある治療に注目されるようになりました。
今、なぜホリスティックケアなの？
犬や猫、人間にも、自分で自分を癒し、治療する自然治癒力が備わっています。
現代は、遺伝的な体質やストレス、化学物質などさまざまな要因で自然治癒力が弱まり、病気や不調を起こすリスクが高くなっています。
また、医学の進歩で寿命が延びた一方で、高齢化に伴う病気や介護の増加などの問題も増えています。
だからこそ、ホリスティックケアで自然治癒力をサポートすることが大切になってきています。
自然治癒力とは
自然治癒力とは「自分の力で病を癒し、治す自然の力」のことです。
その自然治癒力を高めるためには「食事」「運動」「呼吸」「心」などホリスティックケアが大切になります。

ホリスティックケアは、健康なときも、病気のときも、今のQOL（クオリティ・オブ・ライフ）* を高めることを目指します。

「元気だから何もしない」わけではありません。
なんとなく調子が悪い未病の時点でケアをする。
もし病気になってしまっても 治療以外にもお家でできることがあります。
私個人的には、元気な時の日頃のケアを大切にして、

でもちょっと調子悪いなという未病の時こそ
飼い主の私たちが気がついてあげてケアすることが大事です。
