大量の抜け毛がでる時期は、こまめにブラッシングすることで、
床や家具に抜け落ちる毛を少なくすることができます。
特に冬場の換毛期は、ブラッシングでアンダーコートを落としてあげることがポイントです。

猫がブラッシングを嫌がっているのに無理やり行うのは、かえってブラッシング嫌いにしてしまいます。
スローステップで気長にできるようにしましょう
ステップ１ 全身を触れるように
まずは全身を触られるように。
手のひら全体をサッと撫でる（ストローク）する。
これは、プレイスタッチ®︎の全身のストロークです。
ちょっと指の間をあけてコームのようにして、
頭から尻尾の先、肩から足先まで撫でます。
全身を触れると病院での治療でも役立ちます。
全身を触るときは、深い呼吸を！

ステップ２ ブラシを持って撫でる
今度は、ブラシやコームを持ってステップ１の前身のストロークをしてみてください。

ステップ３ ブラシを使ってブラッシング
ステップ２まで嫌がられずにできるようになったら、ブラッシング。
その場合は、最初は短い距離をさっと。
少しでも嫌がる場合は、すぐにやめて、好きな箇所を撫でて、いい思いで終わらせるようにしてください。
ポイント
ブラシができたら大好きなおやつをあげたりして、よく褒めてください。

なるべくストレスが少ない方法で時間をかけてブラッシングを習慣化してあげてください。
短毛・長毛でおすすめのブラシの種類
ブラッシングに使用する道具は、猫の被毛タイプによって使い分けると便利です。

- 長毛種…スリッカーブラシ、ピンブラシ、コーム、ハードタイプの獣毛ブラシ
ブラッシングのときは、まずブラシで毛玉を解きほぐし、抜け毛を落としてから、コームを入れて毛流れを整えます。
毛玉のできやすい長毛種にはスリッカーブラシ、短毛種にはマッサージにも使えるラバーブラシがおすすめ。ピンブラシやコームは短毛・長毛どちらの猫にも使えます。

猫がブラッシングに慣れないうちは、短時間でパーツごとにお手入れするようにします。お手入れのときは、猫が安心する腰の高さに据えて、おとなしくできたらおやつを与えるのもいいでしょう。
また、ブラシやコームが嫌いな猫に対しては、猫の体をなでるようにして使う、ミトンタイプのブラシを試してみるのもおすすめです。
