愛犬の最高の睡眠
だいぶ朝夕は、涼しくなってきて
眠りやすくなってきましたよね。
「愛犬が寝てばかり、体調悪いの？」と心配される方も多いのでは？
パピーやシニアなどで睡眠時間も変わってきますが、
実は、犬は人間よりもたくさん寝る生き物なのです！
今日は、たくさん寝る愛犬のためにも快適な場所などについて書きます。
今日の内容
目次
愛犬の睡眠時間は？
ワシントン大学が行なった調査によると、成犬の平均睡眠時間は、10.6時間。
現在はそれよりも伸びて、12〜15時間程度寝るといわれています。
これを聞いて安心したのでは？
1日の半分以上寝ていることになります。
体格や年齢によっても変わってきます。
大型犬ほどよく寝る
小型犬に比べ、大型犬は身体を動かすときにたくさんのエネルギーを使うので、
回復に時間がかかると考えられているので
エネルギーチャージ、回復のためにたくさん寝るといわれています。
犬種によっても睡眠時間に差があるとはいわれていますが、まだはっきりとはわかっていないそうです。
外飼いの犬は熟睡しない
外飼いの犬は16分間睡眠してから5分間の覚醒を繰り返すといわれています。
これは外敵から身を守ったり環境によるものです。
室内犬に比べるとリラックスできていないと思われます。
パピーほどよく眠る！ 月齢ごとの睡眠時間
生後3週齢 ほぼ1日中眠っています
生後2〜３ヶ月頃の子犬 １日のほとんど眠っている
生後４ヶ月 個性が出てくる睡眠時間は大切
生後５ヶ月頃 平均14〜16時間
生後3週間まで
母乳を飲むとき以外、ほぼ1日中眠っています。
この頃の子犬の睡眠は“レム睡眠”が主になっています。
３週間頃
３週間頃からはレ“レム睡眠”と“ノンレム睡眠”の活動の割合が半々となって、活動する時間が増えてきます。
生後２〜３ヶ月頃
さらに活発に動き回るようになっていきます。
1日のほとんどは寝ています。
この期間は脳や体の発達に睡眠が欠かせないので、良質な睡眠が大切になります。
生後４ヶ月
性格も個性がでてきますが、睡眠にも個性がでてきます。
まとめて寝る子もいますが、あまり寝ない子もいます。
睡眠時間はしっかり確保することが大切になってくるので、
遊ぶときは遊ぶ、眠られせるときには眠る環境を作ることも大切です。
生後５ヶ月頃
平均14〜16時間と少し短くなってきます。
老犬もよく寝る
成犬に比べて睡眠時間が長くなります。
体力が衰えていくシニアはたくさんの休息が必要になります。
トイレや食事のときだけ起きているだけになっていきます。
でもこれは自然の摂理なのでゆっくりと受けて入れていきましょう。
犬も夢を見るの？
寝ているときに脚をジタバタ動かしたりしていると
「お散歩している夢を見ているのかな？」って思ってしまいます。
でもまだ詳しくは解明されていません。
犬にも「レム睡眠」と「ノンレム睡眠」があり、人間と同じくレム睡眠の時に夢を見ている可能性が高いと言われています。
「レム睡眠」： 人間と同様、体は寝ているが脳は起きている状態
「ノンレム睡眠」：脳も体も寝ている状態
「レム睡眠」と「ノンレム睡眠」を繰り返していることは分かっています。
子犬の頃の睡眠の種類は主にレム睡眠ですが、成犬になるとレム睡眠：ノンレム睡眠＝1:3～4の割合でノンレム睡眠の多い睡眠パターンになります。
犬の眠りのサイクルはまだまだ明らかになっていないことが多くあります。
犬も睡眠が大切
成犬の平均睡眠時間は、12～15時間と言われています。
つまり、健康で元気な犬でも、1日の半分が睡眠ということになります。
エネルギーを蓄えるためにも、体を休める時間は大切です。
基本的に犬はその睡眠の60%を夜間に取ると言われていますが、
日中のお留守番が長いなどは、昼間に十分に睡眠をとってしまい、夜なかなか寝なかったり、朝方早く起きてしまうこともあります。
愛犬の生活リズムを崩さないため、そして日中元気に動けるようにするためにも、夜の眠りの質を上げることは大切になります。
そのために、まずは愛犬が安心して過ごせる寝床を用意してあげましょう。
ぐっすり眠れる寝床が大事
犬はよく寝ます。
「こんなこところで！」「苦しくないの？」というところでも眠るので必要ないかと思うかもしれませんが、快適な環境を作ってあげることも大切です。
家族の気配がある場所
眠るときに孤立する場所だと甘えん坊の犬さんは寂しくてなかなか寝付いてくれないかもしれません。
ただ、ご家族の方が遅くまで起きている場合は、なかなか寝付けないと思うので配慮してください。
愛犬の性格など考慮して寝床を考えてあげましょう！
温度を気をつける
寒くても暑くても体調不良を起こす原因となります。
暑い季節は、涼しく通気性のよいベット
冷えひえのシートなども販売しているので使うこともお勧めしますが、
穴掘りが大好きな犬さんは、中のジェリーなどが出てきてしまうことがあるので
素材を気をつけるか見ている範囲でお使いすることをお勧めします。
我が家の愛犬にも鉄板製のを購入しましたが、
自然なものが大好きなので乗ってくれることはなかったです。
玄関の石の上がお気に入りでした。
寒い季節は、暖かいベット など調整してあげるといいです。
床暖房や犬用のホットカーペットを使用することもありますが、犬は体温調節が苦手なため、寝床全てが温まっていると、上昇した体温を下げることができなくなってしまいます。
熱くなりすぎたら体を冷やせるよう、床暖房やカーペットが影響しない場所も確保してあげましょう。
愛犬が快適に過ごせる室温
シングルコートの場合：夏が22～25度 冬が20～25度
ダブルコートの場合は：夏が23～26度 冬が19～23度
子犬や老犬の場合はうまく体温調整ができないため、冷えや暑さには要注意。
室温には十分気をつけてあげてください。
もしスペースがあるのであれば
日の当たる場所や日陰など何カ所かベットが置いて
自由に移動できるようにしてあげるのもいいです。
寝床はいつも清潔に
犬は綺麗好きですので、寝床はいつも清潔に。
家で洗濯ができる素材のベッドなどを選んでみてください。
寝床とトイレが離れていること
犬には寝床から離れた場所でトイレをしたがる習性があります。
寝床とトイレがあまりにも近い距離にあったり、トイレが汚れている状態だとトイレを失敗したり、落ち着かなくなることともあります。
できれば寝床とトイレは離して、ペットシーツはこまめに取り替えるなどトイレの環境を清潔にするようにしましょう。
クレートも安心できる場所
クレートは狭くてかわいそうと思われがちですが、
暗くて狭い洞穴のようなクレートは実は、安心できる場所です。
最近は、災害なども多いですし、クレートが慣れている犬のほうが
災害時や避難所でもストレスが少なく安心して過ごせることができるようにもなります。
我が家の愛犬は、小さい時にケンネルコフにかかり、
病院で治療が薬が散布している狭い部屋に入れられるのですが、
愛犬は、熟睡していたそうです。
獣医から「こんなに寝るこは珍しい」と言われました。
小さい時からクレートで寝ている愛犬は、狭い部屋は安心できる場所だったのかもしれません。
病気のサインかも？
よく寝る犬ですが、
- 愛犬が明らかにいつもよりも長く寝ている
- お散歩も嫌がる
- 深く眠れていない
などの様子が見られる場合には、体調不良のおそれが考えられます。
甲状腺ホルモンの働きが弱くなると、過剰な眠気を引き起こしてしまいます。
眠っているのではなく、関節が痛くて動けない場合もあります。
体を触って痛がる場所がないかなど確かめてください。
また、引越しなどで環境の変化に馴染めないなどのストレスで疲労を溜め込み、寝てばかりいることもあるようです。
逆に睡眠時間が短くなったり、眠りが常に浅すぎたり、急に起きて意味もなく吠えるようになったりといった場合は、認知症の疑いが考えられます。
心臓疾患、呼吸器疾患がある場合には、呼吸に異常があり眠りが浅くなることもあるでしょう。
眠る時間が長くなった、逆に短くなったなど、いつもと違う睡眠の様子が見られたら、かかりつけの動物病院へ相談することをおすすめします。
