「動物を癒し、動物に癒される」アレン.M.ショーンを読んで
この本の最初に「お世話になった師の方々に、二本足、四本足、そして翼を持ったものたちに！」
この部分が大好きです。
１冊を通して動物との向き合い方、ホリスティックケアについてなど学べることができます。
私のバイブル的な本です。
Part1 イニシエーション
Part1では、獣医になった経緯、ホリスティックケアに目覚めるまでの話が書かれています。
愛犬、ミーガンのことも。
このミーガンの愛情溢れる献身的な看護に心うたれました。
犬を飼い始めてすぐの私は、「犬も輸血をするの？」とビックリしたのを今でも覚えています。
Part2 ボンディング
アレン M.ショーン氏の治療体験が書かれています。
犬、猫のペットだけでなく、トドや狼、亀に鷹などなど。
このPart２で紹介されたサンディという雑種犬のエピソードが印象的です。
サンディは、ダニによる皮膚炎を鍼治療で完治をさせます。
ただ、再発をしてしまい、それは飼い主がフライトで家をあける時、
サンディはまた見捨てられるかもしれない恐怖心が彼女の免疫システムを抑淳、再発させてしまっていたそうです。
他にも素敵な動物たちとの治療のエピソードが書かれています。
ここで私は、初めて病気と心の関係を知ることになりました。
飼い主の心の状態も動物たちにどう影響するのかもこの本で学びました。
Part３ ヒーリング
鍼治療について書かれています。
今では、アメリカでも鍼治療が認知されていると思いますが、なかなか理解されなかったようで、その時の苦労なども書いています。
あと、犬と猫のツボについてまとめてあります。
マッサージについて書いてあります。
この本にも「少なくとも日に１度はマッサージを行うことが効果的」と書かれています。
薬草や漢方薬、食餌、ホメオパシーについても軽く書かれています。
Part4 ティーチング
ヒーリングについて書いてありますが、
なんといってもミーガンとのお別れ。
ここは、何回読んでも泣いてしまいます。
ミーガンの自然治癒力や自分で行うホリスティックケアについても感銘を受けます。
著作紹介
アレン M.ショーン（獣医学博士、理学修士）
コネティカット州シャーマンにある療養施設に獣医学研究所を設立する。現在、その所長。
コーネル大学で獣医学博士号、イリノイ大学で動物行動学と神経生理学の博士号を取る。
ニューヨーク・アニマルメディカルセンターの顧問獣医師でもある。
ショーン博士と彼の妻バーバラはバークシアの山麗に自然保護区をつくり、そこに”チ”という名の２人が特に可愛がっている猫と“シャンティ”というゴールデン・レトリーバーと共に暮らしている。[本引用]
本の感想
この本と出会ったのは、JーAWAというペットのホリスティックケアのスクールに通っていた時、
アレン M.ショーン氏はこのスクールの名誉顧問でした。
そのスクールでは本がちょっと安く買えるので勧められたこの本を読み始めました。
これから学ぶホリスティックケアの素晴らしさにワクワクしたのを覚えています。
その名誉顧問からのメッセージに
たくさんの治療方法を学び、ひとつの療法にとらわれることなく、それぞれの動物にとって一番適した療法を見つけ出してください。
そして、たとえ別れが来たとしても後悔するのではなく、新たなる世界へ旅立って行ったのだと思いましょう。
